2nd Half Summer Term 2026

Dear Parents,

It’s hard to believe we only have a few weeks left until the end of the summer term, but here are a few reminders of events still to come.

Children who will be transitioning to primary school this September have been visiting the primary school for stories in the library every Wednesday morning this term so far. This has gone really well, and we can see that the children are already starting to feel more comfortable with the surroundings and are looking forward to their new adventure! They now have some ‘stay and play’ sessions at school to give them even more of a feel for the classroom they’ll be in from September.

Our Sports Day this year will hopefully take place on Thursday 18th June at 2pm on the field. We will require parents/carers to attend and be responsible for the children whilst staff organise races - please arrive at pre-school at 1:45pm to sign your child out so that we are ready to start promptly at 2pm, and we should be finished by 3pm. If your child does not normally attend pre-school for this session, please just arrive at the field ready for the start. This year we will be providing cold drinks and ice-creams for sale, in order to raise some funds to put towards our end of term trip, so please support us with this if you can. This has always been a very popular event, and a good opportunity for everyone to get together and cheer the children on, so we really hope everyone can make it!

Our next meetings with parents will also be held on the evening of Thursday 18th June from 3:30pm onwards. This is an opportunity for you to have a catch-up with your child’s keyperson, look through their Learning Journals, have a read of the end of year and transition reports, and discuss any concerns you may have. We hope you will all be able to attend, and a schedule of appointments is now available at the entrance for you to select a suitable time.

We are pleased to let you know that we have booked our end of year trip to Finkley Down Farm on Wednesday 15th July. Pre-school will be closed on this day, and we will meet at the farm at 10am. We really hope that everyone can make it, and more detailed information will be sent out separately.

Some general reminders:

Changing your child’s hours – could we politely request that the hours you require for your child are requested before the start of each term/half-term please. Funding forms are given out at the end of term as we have to input all funding information at the very beginning of the next term, and there is no easy way to amend your requested hours once this has been done. We are happy to amend hours at half-term if you wish, but please make sure you let us know before half-term so that the funding and register can be altered before starting back after the break. Your help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Uniform – t-shirts and hoodies are available to purchase at pre-school should you wish to do so. T-shirts are £6 and hoodies £13 each. Please ask if you would like to purchase these, or if you would like to try one for size, and we will be happy to help.

Communication - please could we request that if you need to contact us regarding your child’s session times, to report an absence or with any other queries specific to your child, please use the work phone number (07530 893773) or e-mail address (office@kspreschool.co.uk). Please do not use the parents Whatsapp group, or contact members of staff directly for this purpose. This will ensure that information is recorded and shared appropriately in order to safeguard your children – many thanks for your support with this.

Pre-school Committee – please be reminded that we are a committee-led pre-school, and are always keen to welcome new members. We rely on the involvement of parent volunteers to support us with fundraising activities, and to fill the key roles of Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. If you would like to find out more about how you could help, please speak to us for more information.

Snack time – please ensure your child brings a healthy snack for any morning sessions they attend. This should consist of a portion of fruit or veg, either fresh or dried fruit and can be accompanied by plain crackers or breadsticks if you feel they need anything extra, but please do not supply sweet or chocolate biscuits. Their snack should be labelled with their name, and will be placed in their trays for them to access at snack time. The children will be offered a choice of milk or water to drink. If you have any special dietary requirements or requests, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Lunchboxes – if your child is staying for lunch, please provide a packed lunch containing at least one portion of fruit or veg. We will encourage children to eat healthier items first, and are then happy for them to have crisps, chocolate biscuits or a small cake. You are welcome to provide a drink of juice for your child to have with their lunch if you wish, but we will always provide water for any children without one. Please do not include sweets or fizzy drinks in lunchboxes, as these will be sent home.

Nut-free pre-school – please be reminded that we are a strictly ‘nut-free’ pre-school, so please do not provide any snack or lunch items containing nuts. Please check ingredients if unsure. This is to keep any children with allergies safe whilst in our care at pre-school - thank you for your support with this.
