New Year, New start for the term.
Dear Parents,
Happy New Year and welcome back for the first half of the Spring term, we hope you all had a lovely Christmas. We would like to offer a very warm welcome to Willow who will be joining us this term.
To start us off this term, we are exploring the theme of healthy eating and oral health, with the help of two books of the month, ‘Supertato’, and ‘Kitchen Disco’. We will be using these fun stories to learn about different fruits and vegetables and the importance of a balanced diet in helping to keep us fit and healthy, as well as how to look after our teeth. We would really appreciate your support with this topic by ensuring that children are bringing fresh fruit or veg for their snack, as well as having at least one portion of fruit or veg in their lunchboxes – thank you!
Last term, Alissa started running art sessions with the children and they are really enjoying this! Alissa will be continuing her sessions this term, visiting us on on different mornings. This means that all children will get a chance to have a go. Many thanks to Alissa for making this such a fun session!
We also continue to have Howard and Alwena from the church with us for a short story/singing session every other Friday – we really appreciate them giving up their time to come and see us.
Our woodwork sessions were popular with the older children last term, so we will be progressing with this too. This is for the children who will be going on to primary school in September, and the younger children will get a chance to practice their hammering skills first, using the tap-tap art sets, tapping golf tees into vegetables etc.
A reminder that your child will receive an Activity Pack to take home and share with you once a month, and we would welcome any feedback you have on these, so that we can get an idea of how well they are working – thank you!
General Reminders
A polite reminder about snack time – we try really hard to promote healthy eating at snack time, and staff model this by sitting and eating fruit with the children. We request that your child brings a portion of fruit or veg, and either fresh or dried fruit is fine. If you feel this may not be enough, we are happy for plain crackers/rice cakes/breadsticks to be supplied alongside their fruit snack. We have noticed that more unhealthy snacks have been appearing lately, so we would really appreciate your support with this.
Changing your child’s hours – could we politely request that the hours you require for your child are requested before the start of each term/half-term please. Funding forms are given out at the end of term as we have to input all funding information at the very beginning of the next term, and there is no easy way to amend your requested hours once this has been done. We are happy to amend hours at half-term if you wish, but please make sure you let us know before half-term so that the funding and register can be altered before starting back after the break. Your help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Uniform – t-shirts and hoodies are available to purchase at pre-school should you wish to do so. T-shirts are £6 and hoodies £13 each. Please ask if you would like to purchase these, or if you would like to try one for size, and we will be happy to help.
Communication - please could we request that if you need to contact us regarding your child’s session times, to report an absence or with any other queries specific to your child, please use the work phone number (07530 893773) or e-mail address (office@kspreschool.co.uk). Please do not use the parents Whatsapp group, or contact members of staff directly for this purpose. This will ensure that information is recorded and shared appropriately in order to safeguard your children – many thanks for your support with this.
Pre-school Committee – please be reminded that we are a committee-led pre-school, and are always keen to welcome new members. We rely on the involvement of parent volunteers to support us with fundraising activities, and to fill the key roles of Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. If you would like to find out more about how you could help, please speak to us for more information.
Spare clothing – each child should have a clearly labelled bag which can be left at pre-school, containing spare clothes should they need them. We often have messy activities on offer, so spare clothing is essential! Please could we also request that your child brings appropriate clothing for the weather, as the children have freeflow access to our outside area.
Lunchboxes – if your child is staying for lunch, please provide a packed lunch containing at least one portion of fruit or veg. We will encourage children to eat healthier items first, and are then happy for them to have crisps, chocolate biscuits or a small cake. You are welcome to provide a drink of juice for your child to have with their lunch if you wish, but we will always provide water for any children without one. Please do not include sweets or fizzy drinks in lunchboxes, as these will be sent home.
Nut-free pre-school – please be reminded that we are a strictly ‘nut-free’ pre-school, so please do not provide any snack or lunch items containing nuts. Please check ingredients if unsure. This is to keep any children with allergies safe whilst in our care at pre-school - thank you for your support with this.
Please make a note of the 'dates for your diary' below,
Best wishes,
Becky, Katie, Kelly and Siobhán.
